Heat recovery wheel in HVAC system

A heat recovery wheel, also known as an enthalpy wheel or desiccant wheel,is a device that transfers heat and moisture between two air streams in an HVAC system to improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption:
  How it works
  Location
Installed in the supply and exhaust air ducts of an HVAC system
  Function
Transfers heat from the stale air to the fresh air
  Material
Made of a honeycomb matrix of heat-absorbing material, such as aluminum
  Benefits
Can recover up to 80%of the heat and humidity in the air,and reduce the load on the HVAC system
Here's how a heat recovery wheel works:
The wheel rotates slowly between the streams of hot and cold air.
The heat-absorbing material in the wheel captures heat energy from the outgoing air stream.
The wheel rotates and transfers the heat energy to the incoming air stream.
The fresh air entering the building is pre-heated,and the exhaust air leaving the building is cooled.
Heat recovery wheels are a popular choice for large air volumes, such as those found on passenger vessels.
